This project in Decatur, Georgia, was designed as a family retreat that became a haven during the COVID quarantine. The outdoor space incorporates Italian-inspired elements, reflecting the client’s heritage, with features such as a wood-burning pizza oven, Italian cypresses, and herb gardens filled with rosemary and other plants to evoke the feel of Italy. A bocce ball court with synthetic turf adds a playful touch, and a spacious portico was built for cooking and entertaining, complete with a bar, grill, and pizza oven. For year-round enjoyment, a linear gas-burning fire pit and 6,000-watt heaters were installed, making the space functional even in colder months. The result is an outdoor area perfect for family gatherings, cooking, and relaxation, blending comfort with a Mediterranean flair.

01. Italian-Themed Elements

The design features a wood-burning pizza oven, Italian cypresses, and herb gardens (including rosemary), creating an authentic Mediterranean atmosphere.

02. Gas-Burning Fire Pit

This fire pit was installed for ease of use and is suitable for all four seasons, offering a cozy ambiance anytime.

03. Bocce Ball Court

A bocce ball court with permeable synthetic turf was installed, providing a playful space for the family to enjoy.

04. Large Portico

A spacious portico was constructed, designed for cooking, entertaining, and serving, complete with a bar area for gatherings.

05. Heater

Heaters were installed on either side of the portico to keep the area warm during the winter, making the space functional year-round.

06. Swing

Additionally, a swing was installed to accommodate both adults and kids, providing a fun and relaxing spot for the entire family. This feature enhances the versatility of the outdoor space, making it enjoyable for both children and adults alike.
